Considerations

When installing anything, you must ensure you include everything in the planning.

This not only helps reduce the chances of something going wrong, but it also allows you to consider the whole cost of the project helping provide an accurate budget.

Drainage

This is important as your Wet Room must be waterproof and drain adequately.

If not, you run the risk of water damage which will result in repair costs.

When installing a Wet Room, usually you will be asked to choose a tanking membrane that will go across the floor and all the walls.

It should also be placed with a gradient to allow for water drainage.

Flooring

As the name suggests, a Wet Room will be constantly wet so it’s vital to choose the correct flooring for you.

It needs to be slip resistant, and if you decide to go for tiles rather than sheet flooring, they should ideally be natural stone which will provide a natural grip.

Glossy tiles should be avoided.

Ventilation

Ventilation is important.

Air flow will reduce the growth of mould, so if you haven’t any windows in your bathroom, it’s advisable to consider installing an extractor fan.

Underfloor Heating

Although not essential, underfloor heating can provide a touch of luxury to your Wet Room.

It’s easy to install, and imagine drying after your shower with a lovely warm floor.

It’s also wise to consider installing it whilst the flooring is being relaid as it won’t take much extra work.

==========

In the grand scheme of things, Wet Rooms are a cost effective alternative to a Bathroom.

Although there is an initial cost for the materials and installation, over time a Wet Room is less maintenance.

They can add resale value to your home, and generally are easier to uphold day to day.
